Some worker sessions timed out during initialization; in another case, the parent stalled before launching a worker. Local logs also recorded failed thread creation (<code>EAGAIN<\/code>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All resident Codex clients ran under the same Linux user with a 512-task limit. Even when agents were idle, usage was roughly 453\u2013463 tasks. Individual Codex clients held approximately 41\u201342 threads, leaving little room to start another session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a targeted mitigation, we launched each Codex app-server child with <code>TOKIO_WORKER_THREADS=4<\/code>. We applied this to the child launch command, not as a global setting, then restarted the gateway through its normal lifecycle. Resident clients subsequently used roughly 15\u201319 threads each; a final idle check showed 299 tasks under the same limit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A direct GPT reply and six sequential GPT-to-GPT delegations then completed. The delegated results reached the messaging interface, including four repeat tests that took approximately 24\u201338 seconds from request to visible reply. The workers\u2019 native records showed successful completion and delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Limitations:<\/strong> These tests support local thread headroom as a significant contributor, but do not prove it caused every earlier timeout. They were small, sequential tasks\u2014not a concurrent load test or a long-term reliability guarantee. We\u2019d be interested to know whether others have seen resident app-server clients approach a shared per-user task limit, or have used a supported way to bound their worker-thread count.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We observed intermittent GPT delegation failures in a Linux-based multi-agent setup.
